West Point Triathlon and Tough Kids Triathlon
Two swimbikerun events will take place this weekend at Camp Buckner Military Reservation in Cornwall- the 27th annual West Point Sprint Triathlon and the Tough Kids Tri.
On Saturday young triathletes from 4-14 years old will swim in the open water of Popolopen Lake, ride on one park road, and run on another.
The 4 - 6 year old age group will swim 20 yards, bike 1 mile (1 loop), and run 100 yards. One helper is allowed for the youngest athletes. 7 - 8 year and 9 10 year olds will swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles (1 loop), and run half a mile. Finally the 11- 12 and 13 - 14 age groups will swim 200 yards, bike 4 miles (1 loop), and run 1 mile.
The top 3 boys and girls in each age group will qualify for the TOUGHKids Championship at Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson, NY on September 17.
This year West Point will host their first Draft Legal sprint distance race (for experienced triathletes only).
On Sunday the West Point Triathlon Team and other triathletes will return to Camp Buckner for an 800 meter swim l Lake Popolopen, a rolling 22km Bike along Route 293, and challenging 5k Run through Camp Buckner and Camp Natural Bridge.
The racers go off in 10 waves starting at 8:30.
Temps this weekend are expected to be in the mid 70s to 80 degrees. The water temperature should be wetsuit legal, all-in-all it's looking like a great weekend to Tri!
