Spring Races 2017

PictureCold and muddy after Mudders and Grunters '14
It’s a logy time of year. Winter sports have ended early and while there have been spring, and summer, like days it’s not all that warm out yet.
Never fear- there are plenty of running and riding events coming to motivate you to get out and shake the cobwebs off.

Starting off the spring race season on March 11 is the Bill Fortune 10k-5k in Congers, NY at Rockland Lake State Park. The 10k is a flat and fast 3.1 mile loop around the lake, twice. On Sunday of that weekend out in Rock Hill is the Celebrate Life Half Marathon which navigates between Wolf Lake and Lake Louis Marie. It is a beautiful, scenic course. There is one major hill at mile one when that is out of the way the course rolls. Breathe in the beauty of the lake and run rolling hills around it and finish on a downhill.

Or on the other side of the Hudson River, also on Sunday the 12th,  in LaGrange are the Ed Erichson Memorial Races . The races are named in honor of one of the founding members of the club, who died more than three decades ago in an automobile accident. It features a five mile loop run once or twice.

A fun, no pressure running event can be found in Kingston on the 12. For the Shamrock Run Kingston  don your kilt, or green socks, or floppy leprechaun hat and run downhill for two miles in this annual Kingston celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day.

The third Saturday in March will offer a difficult choice. Either the Sleepy Hollow Half Marathon 13.1 miles with 5 miles on trails, views of the Hudson River, and hills-  1,279 feet of elevation change sorta hills.

Or the  Wurtsboro Mountain 30K Road Run. The Wurtsboro run is part of the Long Path Race Series. Start in Wurtsboro, go up Wurtsboro Mountain Road  follow the many twists and turns for 18.6 miles to finish at Emma Chase School in Wurtsboro.

For a different sort of challenge on Sunday the 26th the Mudders and Gruntters run in Yorktown Heights is SO MUCH MUDDY FUN. The course is run off road, through as much muck, mud and water as race directors can manage. Weather the week prior to race day heavily influences the course difficulty.  Eye goggles recommended.
