SOS4Kids Triathlon 2017
A distinct chill in the air greeted the competitors in this year's SOS4Kids. The youngest were first into the pool, kids ages 7-10 swam a 100 meters or 4 lengths in Moriello Pool before jumping out to run half a mile, get on their bikes for a 1 mile ride, and finish up with a quarter mile run to the finish-line on Huegonot Street.
Triathletes ages 11-15 swam 200 meters or 8 lengths, ran a mile, hopped on their bikes and road 4 miles, then completed the event by rrunning another quarter mile to the finish. |

Conner Nelson won his age group, 11-12 years. He unexpectedly aged up a year, he will be 11 before the end of 2017, resulting in longer distances. Nelson said it wasn't a big deal doing the longer distances but on the bike he definitely noticed it.
Nelson swims on the Barracuda swim team for Rondout Valley SD. Even with all his swimming experience jumping into the cold water was the hardest part of the day. The high point, other than a win in the longer distance- the run. "It felt the best," Nelson said. |
