Running Events this weekend- October 13-15

Ragnar Trail Wawayanda Lake presented by Salomon

Way, way, out in Wawayanda NJ, a new  Ragnar Trail Relay is kicking off on Friday, October 13.
Presented by Salomon, in association with New York Road Runners, at the hidden gem called Wawayanda (pronounced wah - way - yanda ) State Park. This northern New Jersey venue features a serene lake surrounded by forested hills, and a long stretch of the Appalachian Trail. Teams of 8 (or 4) members will run relay-style over two days and one night, to conquer a set of single-track trails that start and stop at Ragnar Village. Runners will set up camp on the shores of Wawayanda Lake. When the sun goes down, runners will revive and experience the party vibe.

The Cat's Tail Trail Marathon

The Cat’s Tail, mountain marathon, begins at the Fox Hollow trail head in Shandaken, NY up the Giant Ledge-Panther-Fox Hollow Trail and sends runners over seven Catskill Mountain peaks. Runners head south over Panther Mountain and Giant Ledge to Route 47 where they run south for a short distance to an eastern turn and ascend Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide Trail and over mountains with the same names. The decent off Cornell included the infamous “Cornell Crack”, a technical V notch. Partway down Wittenberg, runners will turn east onto the newly created  Cross Mt. Trail leading over Cross Mt., Mt. Pleasant, and Romer Mt. before depositing them a short distance from Phoenicia and the finish line. The distance is around 26.9 miles with nearly 7000 feet of ascent.

The Cat’s Tail is a mainly self-supported event with 2-3 points of aid. Runners are required to carry certain supplies throughout the run to ensure their safety in this remote area. The Cat’s Tail is not meant to be anyone’s first marathon or trail race so there are pre-requisites to register.

Hambletonian Marathon, Half Marathon & Good Time Trotters Relay

A 26.2 mile marathon, 13.1 mile half marathon and three-person relay (distances of 11.5, 9.8 and 4.9 miles respectively) in Goshen, Orange County NY. The race will take place October 15, 2017 at 8 am. Proceeds to benefit the Hudson Valley Food Bank, the Orange County Citizens Foundation Initiative for the Heritage Trail and the Eva Fini Fund (Research for Rett's Syndrome). The start line is on "Lawyer's Row" (in front of Limoncello's Restaurant at 159 Main Street) in Goshen with the finish line on the Goshen Historic Horse Track (44 Park Place, Goshen, NY), also the location of the Finish Line Festival. The marathon and relay course travels a figure 8 course on winding rolling country farm roads dotted with horse and cow farms, with flat sections to be run on the Heritage Trail. The half marathon is an extension of the first loop of the figure 8 marathon course and can also be part of the first leg of the relay.this event takes place during the most beautiful time of the year with fall foliage at its peak!

The Rewards of the Wurtsboro 30k

Picture
By Doug Haines

I did it for the toffee.

When I first heard about the Wurtsboro 30K, the distance daunted me. My weekly mileage for 2017 has been less than 20 miles a week. With one race I was going to be hitting my weekly mileage. In any race, the only thing that can really hurt me is under-training. Read more
