No Man's Land Film Festival -New Paltz

Picture
The No Man’s Land Film Festival (NMLFF), All-female Adventure Films, is coming to the Rock and Snow Annex on Saturday, October 21.
Starting at 8pm, in partnership with the Gunks Climbers Coalition,  the NMLFF will show films spotlighting women climbing, mountain biking, running, ski-snowboarding, surfing, and outdoor adventuring.
This traveling, all-female, adventure film festival came about when founder Aisha Weinhold had enough of female under-representation in the outdoor industry and decided to do for herself rather than wait for someone to do for her.
All of the films feature women adventures and champions women with grit, spunk, determination, and boundless passion.
Some of our films are submitted, some we find and contact the filmmakers directly. They are not all created by men but they are all about women. They all feature female athletes, but some of the production teams are all female. Some of the female production teams include The Honeymoon is Over and Katie Bono On All Arounding.
The all-female crew at NMLFF are all outdoorists themselves. Sarah Coburn, Program Director, grew up in the Hudson Valley.
“I grew up playing outside, Coburn said. “You could always find me running barefoot through the woods near my house. I was lucky enough to have access to wild places even within my hometown of Dobbs Ferry, which is fairly small. I was also lucky to have parents that encouraged outdoor exploration and the magic of losing oneself in imagination. The Hudson Valley was integral in turning my heart into a stronghold for wilderness. Those roots have informed each decision in my life made because of a love for the outdoors. This love, as well as a love for female community and fight for equality, lead me to No Man's Land Film Festival. It is a marriage of two of my greatest passions. I have long days in the woods of the Hudson Valley to thank for kicking off that journey”.

The is a corilation between the type of person who has big outdoor goals and the type who have big goals elsewhere.

"Being a woman in the outdoor industry has led me to connect with countless other women who are equally as committed to tackling big objectives in the mountains as they are to fighting for their rights on the public stage. The sisterhood that I have found in the adventure and outdoor industry inspires me daily and gives me hope for the future," Weinhold said.

The NMLFF is in its third year and is making great headway in its goal to invest women them with the respect, support, and media recognition they deserve as well as adding components of outdoor know-how.
They  have added Adventure Labs for kids and Down & Dirty Events to their programming to equip women with the tools they need to explore the back-country in a safe, responsible and inspired manner. The goal is to get participants to go into the outdoors and to teach them how to do so safely.
A $10 donation to the GCC will get you in for all this might fine fun.
