Belleayre Mountain All Terrain Challenge

Picture
The Bellearyre Mountain All Terrain Challenge celebrated its decade anniversary with what some called the best course yet.

This year’s course had three new sections and more single track according to Billy Denter, Race Director and owner of Overlook Mountain Bikes in Woodstock.

Alex Riccio, who rides for RCubed, has competed in the Bellearyre race for the past three years found the course challenging.

“It was tough, very technical, with a lot of climbing and downhills,” Riccio said.

“There is an off camber, rooty section on the back. I thought I was going to fall,” Melinda White, also riding for RCubed, said.

Team RCubed has a good showing at all of the NYSMTB Series. There riders range in age from 14 to 60.

Top seeded Pro Men’s Mike Jawaroski described the course as having more climbing. “They took out the ski slope and added single track,” Jawaroski said

The Pros men and women are a tight knit group. The two top seeded men Mike Jaworski and Ben Williams ride for Williams’ team, CCI RACING/TOWN CYCLE. Laura Slavin, BICYCLE TECH/ELITE ENDURANCE TRAINING, and Stacey Barbossa, top seeded women, share a coach, and a beer after a race too.

Going into the Belleayre Race Jawaroski had 141 points and Williams 132. Jawarosk  beat Williams by less than a minute with a time of 00:31:47.946 to Williams’ 00:30:51.950.

The top position on the podium is pretty much a done deal going into the Round Top Enduro & Mountain Bike Festival on September 13.

This will be the first year Jawaroski has won both the NY and NJ mountain bike series.
“To win both you have to have a lot of luck," Jawaroski said thinking of the  many things that can go wrong in a mountain bike race.

And while he’s pretty much a shoo-in for the top seat Jawaroski will still be giving it his all at Roundtop.
“He’s gonna push himself, that’s his DNA,” Jawaroski’s aunt and uncle commented.

Pro Woman Kimberly Milton was in the lead with 134 points going into Belleayre and Wendi Sebastian, in second, had 115. Milton placed 3 at the Bell and Sebastian 5, so the top spots on the podium are up for grabs at Round Top.
